**A Newbie Guide to Gemstone 3**

    I will start this off by saying Welcome to Elanthia! You are getting ready to embark upon a Wonderous voyage in fantasy here. In this document I will not talk about the various races and classes, but about what is a new player supposed to do. I hope I put this in tearms everyone can understand to.  All that I know about the lands, I learned the hard way. Sometimes the hardest way there is. Not everything will be in here I am purposely leaving a few things out of here. Can't have ya going in there with the knowlage of the Lords of the land <chuckle>. Ok, enough rambling. Down to buisness...

    PART I An Idea of the Commands

    This will give you a general idea of what you will be able to say or do while in character. If you want to portray a certain feeling, just type that word (Example. Say I wanted to cringe away from someone. I would type..cringe Borgil) The way everyone in that room would read it is...Senje cringes away from Borgil. In some instances you may want to do cry, or smile. In that case just type the word of the expression. It will come out like this on the screen. Senje smiles. or Senje starts to cry all over the place. Use your imagination. I have found only a few that dont work. So have fun playing with them.

    Part II Where Am I?

    When you first arrive in the lands, you will be clean on the other side of town. In one of the least traveled areas that I know of. You will at that time have a heavy backpack, light leather armor, and a belt pouch. Along with that you will have some silver coins. at this point in time you will need to type DIR. That one command dir (direction) will be a life saver until you learn
where things are, download a map of the town, or get to level 2. The DIR will work for level 0 and level 1 adventurers only. On that list of directions are 11 places that are VERY important to a true newbie. If you go to these places you will find that you can gain experience points for it. Enough to get you to level 1. The places that you need to visit are...The Herbalist Shop, The Pawn Shop, The Healers Tent, The Furrier, The Town Gate, The Arms Shop, The General Store, The Armory, The Gemcutters Shop, Town Square Central, and the Catacombs.
    Once done with that, goto the Inn and check in. That will take you to level training. As a level 1, Rats or Kobolds will be your best bet to fight for experience. Rats are located in the catacombs, while the kobolds are outside the town. I recomend you do NOT venture outside the gates until you have either a map or are with someone that can get around without getting lost.
There are usually friendly people to ask for help if you need it.

    Part III Stealing. Not just the Rouges either.

    Ok, this is probably one of the most sensitive things there is in Gemstone 3. Stealing. Now I am not saying its OK to steal. I am totally against it. In fact I have killed 2 thieves that thought my pockets where a little heavy. The point is DO NOT try to pick someones pocket. If you get caught, very likely they will attack and do thier darndest to kill you. Money is not exactly
easy to get sometimes and people try to keep it a little and buy the special magic items that are available.Just because you are trained in picking pockets doesnt mean you can pick a pocket. If your target is trained in perception, he will notice. And take action.
    Another thing on stealing. Grave robbing is a problem and is HIGHLY frowned upon. If you get to a place where you see a body of someone and a Mithril Broadsword, Dont take the sword and run. Thats grave robbing, and that person just may come back with a VERY large friend for his/her weapon.

    Part IV Language

    This is short and sweet here. do NOT cuss. Most of the cuss words can get a person banned from the game. That character and all that persons ID's will not access the game if you get banned. So watch the language.

    I know this is not a complete guide, but this does give you the basics to get started. That is all I intended to do. The basics. There is to much knowlage for anyone document to cover everything.     Remember, if you can download a document, DOWNLOAD it. It may save your life in the long run if you know as much about the lands as possible.
    If you access the WWW, I recomend 2 places to visit. Zepath's Den, his maps are the ABSOLUTE best that there is available. (At least from what I have seen) The other is The Unofficial Gemstone III Home Page. This page you really
shouldnt access from any of the GS3 servers. Use a Webserver. It is possible to spend 3 hours going through things there. This is probably the best page I have found for GS3.
    Well, thats all I have to say. Oh, one last word. If you stay to listen to The Raging Thrak and answer his qustions correct, thats 3000 exp.
